Taylor swift “Life of a Showgirl” Album review

BY AMANI S

“Life of a Showgirl” by Taylor Swift released on October 3rd, 2025. Although it got bad reviews from fans it’s not a bad album. It is just different from Swift’s usual albums. This album has a wide range of genres that Swift doesn’t usually take on such as Jazz.

My personal favorites from the album have been Ruin the Friendship, Eldest Daughter, WI$h Li$t , Honey, and Life of a Showgirl featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Eldest Daughter’s lyrics starts off strong: “Everybody’s so punk on the internet / Everyone’s unbothered ‘till they’re not / Every joke’s just trolling and memes / Sad as it seems, apathy is hot.” The best lines from Ruin the Friendship are as followed: Don't make it awkward in second period/Might piss your ex off/Lately, we've been good/Staying friends is safe, doesn't mean you should/Don't make it awkward in second period/Might piss your ex off/Lately, we've been good/Staying friends is safe, doesn't mean you should/When I left school, I lost track of you/Abigail called me with the bad news/Goodbye, and we'll never know why.”

The Abigail mention is something that every Swiftie was pleasantly surprised by especially as the last time Abigail was directly mentioned by name was from Fifteen in Swift’s Fearless album. The song Wi$h Li$t is essentially about people’s expectations when they get into a new relationship and many of the lyrics also hint at Swift and Kelce’s relationship.

In “Wi$h Li$t” Swift says: “Got me drеamin' 'bout a driveway with a basketball hoop/Boss up, settle down, got a wish list (Wish list)/I just want you.” Honey’s a track that is vastly  distinct from the others because it is not Swift’s typical love songs. Honey states: “You can call me "Honey" if you want because/I'm the one you want//I'm the one you want/You give it different meaning 'cause you mean it when you talk/Sweetie, it's yours, kicking in doors/Take it to the floor, give me more.”

Life of a Showgirl was one of the most highly anticipated releases for this album. It’s a banger. This song features Sabrina Carpenter on it. It states: “You don't know the life of a showgirl, babe, and you're never, ever gonna.”

A fan favorite song on the album by a majority of Swifties is Cancelled! as it reminds many of Swift’s other album, Reputation. The Fate of Ophelia and Elizabeth Taylor are some additional fan favorites.

In conclusion, although this album is not what fans expected for a Swift album and many were disappointed that there were no additional bonus songs released post midnight like it was for TTPD and Midnights this particular album still holds pretty well on its own.
