Maisie Peters “You You You” and "Audrey Hepburn” Single Review
BY KATHERINE CHUNG
Masie Peters is full of surprises. In the past few weeks, she has been teasing her lead single, “Audrey Hepburn,” which will be on MP3. She kept teasing on Instagram that only one single would drop on October 9, but she surprised fans with a second release, “You You You.”
“Audrey Hepburn” is a stunning track that marks the beginning of her romance and feelings era, setting the tone for a softer and more vulnerable side of herself. Her vocals are low and delicately controlled, drawing listeners in with a sense of quiet intimacy. The gentle acoustic guitar that accompanies her voice weaves a warm and organic soundscape. The overall effect is cinematic and timeless in evoking feelings about love. Similar to the elegance of Audrey Hepburn herself, this track is a standout introduction to this new chapter of her music.
Building on the idea of feelings of being loved, Maisie said in her latest email newsletter:
“Audrey Hepburn” and “You You You” are inexplicably tied together, whilst being such north and south poles of each other at the same time. ‘Audrey’ is a song that, for me, defines this album and my life in recent times. ‘You You You’ is about the darkest trench of heartbreak, a song I wrote very much in retrospect, thinking about how consumed I was by that sadness, something I could have only seen truly in hindsight.”
For those of you who don’t follow all her socials, MP3 is her newest album. Listeners do not know what the album title is. However, fans are speculating that the title has multiple YYYs. In her email newsletters and TikTok captions, the letter Y has been present a lot.
Until the next release, Maisie’s Daisies will keep streaming the new singles and The Good Witch. As a special treat, she debuted “Audrey Hepburn” live for the first time in London. With spooky season just beginning, fans can look forward to even more surprises ahead.
