FLIPTURN IN RALEIGH, NC

BY ALYSSA SCINTA

Flipturn hits The Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina after a weekend of North Carolina shows. After playing a set at Charlotte’s Moo, Brew, and Queue festival, and headlining a show in Asheville, Raleigh wraps up their NC series with a bang. Like many of the dates on this tour, this show sold out quite early in the tour.

A smart creative move made by the band was their visually appealing stage plot, using platforms to make the pianist and drummer visible at all angles of the crowd. Reading left to right looking at the stage stood Tristan Duncan, the bassist, Mitch Fountain on the keys on a platform, Dillan Basse on lead vocals, Madeline Jarman on bass, and drummer Devon VonBalson on a kit platform.

The star of the show included the intricate light show that refused to have a dull moment throughout the show. With a variety of color and movement, it wasn’t difficult to identify a song by the light direction; The Fall, for example, with their sultry red wash over the stage that bled into the crowd.

Ricky Mitch and the Coal Miners join Flipturn on this tour, and it’s debatable who had the louder crowd in Raleigh. Some predict Ricky Mitch may be just as renowned in this area as Flipturn the next time they find themselves here.

If this show could predict the energy given when they come back to Raleigh with Two Door Cinema Club and Quarters of Change this summer, they are in good hands. Flipturn will make their return to the North Carolina cities they played on this tour, alongside those two other bands with a large fan population in the entire state. There is no doubt tickets will sell out fast, so get your tickets soon!
