TATE MCRAE’S “GREEDY” TRACK REVIEW
BY KATHERINE CHUNG (she/HER)
Tate Mcrae’s new song,“Greedy” is her first song since her debut album, “I Used to Think I Can Fly”. She is a triple threat, a canadian pop-star best known for her emotive pop songs and melancholy messages. Although, this new era has proven that she has the baility tomake positive, catchy, and upbeat music. It is the beginning of her happiness era and fans are dying to hear what else she has in store for them.
“Greedy” is about the feeling of having utter confidence and being like, 'Yeah, it takes a lot to really get me to open up.' Her message to her fans is to feel confident and don’t fall for him too fast. Too often, men see her for her beauty on social media and fame. She has encountered these individuals in clubs, online, and in everyday life. Tate is sick and tired of these greedy people wanting something from her. Throughout the song, she continuously asks questions like, “...is this for real or just an act?” and “Can't you tell that I want you?" as her way of saying that she wants him but not for his greediness. She knows exactly what she wants. She wants an authentic relationship with a man who cares for her carefree and fun personality.
After comparing “Greedy to her previous singles,” it’s clear that she is experimenting with her sound. Her playfulness and positivity is shown throughout the “Greedy” music video. The video includes a dance choreography led by herself and includes female background dancers. She is here to tell women that their desires and feelings are valid.
