CAT & CALMELL’S NEWEST SINGLE “OVERSTIMULATED”

BY LIAM GILLIN (He/Him)

“Not to be "dramatic" or anything, but their uniqueness is what the music industry needs more of right now.” The top comment that appears on Cat & Calmell’s music video for their newest single “Overstimulated.” The song debuts two years after Cat & Calmell’s EP “Life of Mine.”

“Overstimulated” is a song that dives deep into the feelings of anxiety into social situations and how intense it can be when experiencing a sensory overload in these situations. The Australian duo is able to showcase these feelings in the song as they sing: “I can feel it snap. My bones were made to break. And I can feel it rip” and “Keep your guard up. While I close my eyes you know the deal. I’m defensive, you're protective.”

Cat of Cat & Calmell stated in regards to what makes the single stand out from the Australian duo’s previous work, “On our last album, we were just having fun and writing about whatever… Now, with this project we’re like, ‘OK, we’re dealing with it now. There’s shit we need to talk about.” The music video for “Overstimulated” encapsulates the euphonious and melodic sound through Y2K visual inspiration from slow shutter effects, moody green and pink contrasting lighting and camcorder footage.

“Overstimulated” is out now and is just the beginning of new music that is to come from Cat & Calmell; along with a national Australian tour with Mallrat.
