BIZZY Returns with Another Teen Rom-Com Anthem: “Don’t Tell the Girls”

BY KATHERINE CHUNG

Alt-pop star BIZZY is back with another fun and energetic track, “Don’t Tell The Girls.” Rooted in Nashville’s vibrant music scene, she brings a deep connection to the industry while also drawing from her Maryland roots. With a pulse on DC’s late-night post-concert party culture, BIZZY blends her diverse influences into a sound that feels electrifying, nostalgic, and authentic.

The track kicks off with a burst of pounding drums and deep bass, building anticipation in the first 15 seconds. The instrumental alone evokes the spirit of an Avril Lavigne song from the early 2000s—nostalgic and full of teen energy. Then, suddenly—BOOM!—BIZZY’s powerful vocals cut through: “He calls me up / So what was I to do?…” These opening lines set the stage for the rest of the song and its accompanying music video. If you have ever watched late ‘90s romances like Notting Hill or Pretty Woman, this track feels like the musical embodiment of one. But the best part? It radiates main character energy, making listeners feel like they are starring in their movie scene while rocking out.

It starts with a late-night call from the ex you know you should not answer—but, of course, you do. Whether you are in an Uber or alone at home, the plan forms fast: attempt to sneak out, do not tell the girls you fell back in love with the guy you left, and enjoy the thrill of a flirty, shameless “get ready with me” moment mixed with a solo dance choreo because why not? With lip gloss shining, a confident smirk, a sleek new outfit you have never worn before, and a surge of adrenaline later, you are out the door to see them.. But as you are about to slip out unnoticed, your phone buzzes again—this time, it is one of your girlfriends. Busted.

BIZZY says, “You know it’s wrong, so you keep it a secret because once your friends find out, there is no way in hell they will let you go through with it. Not without reminding you of everything that person did to wrong you and how down-bad you were when things ended.”

If she wasn’t a singer-songwriter, she could write movie scripts for the next era of rom-com fans. Her storytelling is on par with this generation’s teens and young adults. Each of her songs is unique yet engaging so that you always feel like the main character but with a different romance storyline intact.

In 2024, she dropped “Hotter Than Your Ex”, a track with a similar vibe to her latest release, serving as a prelude to this new song. Next month, starting May 9th at 9:30 Club in her hometown of the DMV area, she is joining U.K. pop star Rachel Chinouriri on tour as one of her openers.
