TOMMY LEFROY IN ANTWERP

BY DASHA RYCHkOVA

Tessa Mouzourakis from Canada and Wynter Bethel from the U.S. make up the indie-folk duo, Tommy Lefroy. Their music tells stories and has thoughtful lyrics that create an emotional and genuine sound. They take inspiration from literature, as seen in their name, which is a nod to Jane Austen's romantic interest, Tom Lefroy. Their own experiences inspire their songwriting, allowing them to explore themes of love, loss, identity, and self-reflection.

On a Monday night at Kavka Oudaan in Antwerp, Tommy Lefroy delivered a deeply moving and captivating performance that left the entire audience touched from start to finish. The night kicked off with TEUN, a wonderfully talented Dutch support act, who, despite having only two songs available on streaming, created a magical atmosphere with her beautiful voice and impressive vocals. In 2022, TEUN joined Eefje de Visser's permanent band as a dancer and backing singer after touring with her. During this tour she connected with producer Daan Schepers, leading to the creation of her debut EP, which mirrors her personal development through electronic, melancholic tracks.

After their thirty-minute performance, there was a quick changeover before the main act took the stage. When Tessa and Wynter came on, they rocked it with a performance of “Garden”, seamlessly transitioning into “The Mess”. One of the touching moments of the show was Tessa's heartfelt intro to the song "Girlhood, Godhood: "I've been gathering the courage to write this song for a long time." Later, she said, "To those who connect with this song, I believe you."

Another standout moment was before “Jericho Beach”, where Tessa introduced the song with, "We’re obviously very far away from home. (…) It's about a place where everyone went to kiss and break up."

Overall, the show was magical and very emotional. More shows of the Tommy Lefroy UK/EU tour: https://www.tommylefroy.com/tour
