The Japanese House with Venus & The Flytraps
BY SHOLOME
On September 26 at Electric City in Buffalo, NY, The Japanese House, with openers Venus & The Flytraps, took the stage. It was a night full of vibes and chill.
Venus & The Flytrap is an indie-pop band from Nashville, Tennessee, consisting of Ceci Tome and Brenna Kassis. These two know how to put on a show, and their riot grrl-feel lyrics, like in their song "Boys Are Cuter When They’re Crying," got the crowd going. They sang songs from their EPs "Dumbing of Age" and "Venus in Love," which was released last year. This band is not to be overlooked, and I highly recommend catching one of their performances if you get the chance.
The Japanese House took the stage, and the crowd was ready for her. She opened the show with "Touching Yourself," leading into "Sad to Breathe" and "Something Has to Change." The crowd was engaged with The Japanese House; she had them in a trance and got them in their feelings with her lyrics that show her vulnerability and innermost thoughts that the crowd connects with. Throughout the whole set, you could feel the connection that The Japanese House and the crowd had. It’s the feeling that I believe every artist wants to experience during their show. I also highly recommend catching one of her performances if you get the chance you wouldn’t be disappointed.
