The Driver Era’s first time in Monterrey

BY DANIELA MIRELES AND REBECA FLORES

On Tuesday night, Escenario GNP ignited with electric energy as The Driver Era took the stage for the band’s first time in the north city in Mexico. The brothers, Rocky and Ross Lynch delivered a preformance that will become an unforgivable memory for fans that attended the event.

The setlist consisted of the band’s beloved hits such as “Get Off My Phone” and fan favourite “On My Own” from Teen Beach Movie, a movie where the lead singer stars in. From the moment Rocky started playing the first guitar riff, the audience filled with pink cowboy hats was left in awe with their magnificent presence.  Fans organised a fan project for the song “Get Off My Phone” in which they held up a sign that said “Monterrey is ready to rock” at the beginning of the song, and in the chorus, the public held up their phone’s flashlight to the beat of Rocky’s guitar strums.

“What are people doing up there? Goodness gracious!” said the frontman as he talked about the sold out crowd. Given that this was the final show of the band’s tour, Ross Lynch spoke about how significant and happy he is of it. The band described the song “San Francisco” as an emotional song, and as they were singing this song, the entire audience fired up their phone flashlights in support of the group. Everyone in the arena knew every word to every song that was performed and as a result, there was an electrifying atmosphere in the venue.

The band showed their immense love to the fans in Monterrey, as they kept saying how much they love this city and the country overall, appreciating all the support the country has given the band throughout all the years. To honour this country, they played a bit of salsa music filled with tambourines, giving a twist to their pop rock songs.

The audience didn’t want the show to end, and as the night drew to a close. But after the band left the stage, the audience chanted “Otra! Otra!” which translates to “Another song!” causing the band to return and perform three more stages for the public, including an R5 song that took the audience back into their childhoods. The Driver Era promised to return with their next era after being overwhelmed by the city’s support.

Ross Lynch’s charismatic stage presence was a highlight of the show. The engagement with the audience and the ability to keep everyone dancing on their feet was something that will make you want to go to another The Driver Era show. Meanwhile, Rocky Lynch displayed his musical talents with out of this world guitar solos that left everyone in awe. At the end of the show, everyone was exhausted in the best way possible, from screaming out lyrics to non stop dancing for almost two hours, the band delivered an excellent performance with their ability to blend music genres and have an engaging and captivating stage presence. Fans left the venue already looking forward to the next time the Lynch brothers will be in the city so they could see them preform again.
