the dip at the bellwether
BY GENEVIEVE QUINN
It’s not every day that you get to groove and jive to sounds of fresh-modern music. But when the opportunity comes, you take it. At least that was the sentiment of Los Angeles concert goers on Saturday night as The Dip took the Bellwethers’ stage.
The Seattle-grown band is a powerhouse in today's Jazz and R&B pop space. Known for their emphasis on horned instruments, The Dip pays homage to their roots in every song. The band was formed from the collaboration of 3 jazz and 3 electro-pop musicians, which have resulted in a unique, upbeat sound. Retro but energetic, they are the type of band that radiates soul. A perfect example of this is a personal favorite song of mine, “Slow Sipper”. The group is celebrating the release of their third studio album, Love Direction, that of which was released in July of this year.
In all honesty, I am a biased perspective. As someone who finds comfort and a sense of identity in soul music, the Dip has become an instant favorite of mine. They are the type of musicians that make you wish you could discover them for the first time over and over again. As performers, they showcase that this is music ingrained in their identity and that they are the real deal. Seeing these musicians perform live was truly a special experience.
