ORVILLE PECK AT HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM

BY genevive QUINN

Looking out onto an audience of cowboy hats and tassels, Orville Peck shined as he began the end of his Stampede tour at the Hollywood Palladium in LA.

Orville Peck's musical stylings are a love letter to classic 70’s country. With a voice as smooth as Johnny Cash and ethereal instrumentals, his sound is heavenly. His look is also reminiscent of the time with a glam-camp flare.

Peck has been trailblazing the country scene, not only bringing a unique sound but a proud following of queer people. The masked singer is very vocal about allyship, the queer experience, diversity in country music and mental health. His music strikes the hearts of those who adore yearning, loss and love in songwriting that seems so specific to country.

All of Orville’s activism was evidenced by the safety and acceptance of Sunday night's performance. Being amongst a crowd of old school cowboys, Dolly styled glittering women and hopeless romantics was special and comforting. Peck was charming and warm while speaking candidly about his deeply personal songs, while keeping the show an overall bright and positive experience.
