MIDWXST TAKES ON AXIS CLUB
BY ARLIN
Midwxst kicked off his E3 album tour at The AXiS Club in Toronto, Canada on October 19th with special guest Casper Sage. Bursting through the E3 doors with his hit single “Tally,” Midwxst had the crowd jumping from the start. It was an intimate show with energy radiating off the walls as fans broke into mosh pits throughout
The connection between Midwxst and his audience made this show feel really special. Bringing in an age demographic similar to himself, it felt just like a bunch of friends getting together to have a great time. Throughout performing he would take moments to chat and take photos with the fans, signing shoes and other items, and during a brief break accepting a particularly special token of appreciation from one fan, a blue magic worm.
One of his songs that was particularly special when performed live was “lost” the lead single on E3. It begins as a more mellow piece compared to his other songs. As he sits on the tree stump situated in the middle of the stage (a key piece in his stage set) we watch him pour out feelings of hurt as he details a relationship that is drifting. Near the end of the song there is a gradual build up of drums that quickly builds it into a full on rock song. With vocals from members of the Sunday Service Choir, it’s impossible to not become fully immersed within it. This song acts as a great introduction to the rock influenced sounds of the album.
Near the end of the show he performed a few of his classic earlier songs and ended off with some words of inspiration to the crowd. You can tell that he doesn’t put himself up on a pedestal, rather he sees himself within the fans and I always find that when acknowledged, it makes the show that much more special for everyone. The E3 Tour will continue through to the end of November. Tickets can be purchased through his website midwxst.com
