MICROWAVE PERFORMS IN charlotte,nc

BY ALYSSA CINTA

Microwave, an American rock band from Atlanta, GA field trips across the US on their tour to support their most recent album, ‘Let’s Start Degeneracy.” Described as ‘adult mid-tempo psychedelic contemporary,’ their set provides an equal amount of music from all eras of the Microwave discography. This tour follows their double headed tour with Sick Joy in Europe during the month of April.

Colorful and dreamy visuals are used as a powerful visual representation of the music through promotions online and the branding on the album, and this same mindset was manifested into the stage design as well. To start the show, blow-up larger than life mushrooms glow the stage on each side. The lighting designers carefully replicated coloring that can be found through other visual designs from the album, including the bright blues, pinks and magentas, and lime greens.

The rest of the line up consists of bands from a modern punk fans dream; Origami Angel, Heart Attack Man, and Carpool Tunnel. Carpool Tunnel playing first, is a Jam rock inspired band with hints of hardcore influences. Heart Attack Man, a punk rock and hip hop band from Cleveland, Ohio, is best known for their song, C4 (or at least, this was the song I was most excited to hear).

Origami Angel, a rock duo from DC, produced quite a riot in Amos Southend. Their sound has notes from all types of genres; emo, pop punk, hardcore, easycore; you name it. This band paired with Microwave was perfect, as these two bands really pave the way for new and innovative sounds in the punk scene.
