Lasso Kicks Off His Malcriado Tour in Monterrey
BY DANY MIRELES
On August 14th, Venezuelan pop sensation, Lasso opened his highly anticipated Malcriado tour at Showcenter Complex in Monterrey, Mexico, turning the venue into a vibrant blend of live music, laughter and intimate fan moments. From the first chord, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a show you could simply watch from a distance – Lasso was determined to pull his audience into the experience with him.
The Showcenter Complex buzzed with anticipation before the lights went down, fans in tour merch swapped stories about their favorite songs, what they are most looking forward to, some clutching handmade signs and even flowers for the singer. The energy was already electric when the first notes rang and Lasso emerged, greeting Monterrey as if stepping into a friend’s living room rather than a concert hall.
One of the night’s most memorable segments came early when Lasso paused the music to invite two fans to an unconventional challenge – painting his portrait live in front of everyone. The rest of the audience cheered them on while the singer continued the song. When the portraits were revealed, the crowd roared, the winner left with a signed merch, but both contestants walked away with their portraits signed.
Later, the tone shifted into something sweeter and softer. Spotting an old couple in the audience, Lasso invited them on stage and serenaded them beneath a single spotlight. The venue fell into a hushed awe, couples in the crowd were swaying together while friends clung to each other and recorded the moment. It was tender without feeling staged, a reminder of the romance that runs through the singer’s music.
The setlist was a careful balance between upbeat anthems and slower, emotional ballads, weaving in covers of reggaeton songs and his newer material. The crowd didn’t just sing along – they shouted the lyrics like they’ve been waiting months for this moment. What stood out the most was Lasso’s genuine rapport with his audience, he cracked jokes between songs, took time to greet fans, and often leaned off the stage to make eye contact.
By the end of the night, Monterrey wasn’t ready to let him go, chanting his name even after the last song. As the lights came back on, people lingered, still humming melodies, still smiling. For Lasso, this kickoff wasn’t just the start of his tour, it was a love letter to his fans, and Monterrey got to be the first to read it.
