glaive at danforth music hall
BY ARLIN
It was a warm August night when hyperpop/ indie artist glaive took the stage at The Danforth Music Hall for his “I care so much that I don’t care at all” tour stop in Toronto, Canada. He sat down at an antique table and chair, proceeding to dimly illuminate the dark room with a single lamp and a soft piano melody, introducing his first song “oh are you bipolar one or two?”. For an artist with such high energy songs, you could feel this soft and calm introduction building the ever growing anticipation within the crowd.
I’ve been a fan of glaive’s music since early 2021, so I was especially excited for him to perform his earlier songs including “1984” and “cloak n dagger” that first introduced me to him. You could tell the crowd also especially anticipated these early songs. He took a pause a few times throughout the show to speak to the crowd, it was very authentic and fun as he just spoke his mind in the moment, cracking some Canada-related jokes and making conversation with people in the crowd.
During the encore of his performance glaive ended off with “minnesota is a place that exists”, and as he extended the mic to the audience during the chorus, they of course knew every word. glaive’s second leg of his North America tour will begin in September and continue until early October.
