“Everybody’s Gay” Lizzo’s Newest Queer Anthem

Special is Lizzo’s latest album that is vibrant and incredibly uplifting. Each track is a different form of self healing from coping through the pandemic to finding self confidence. It is an album of feel good music filled with a lot of funk and disco elements. Special is the album that truly establishes who Lizzo is and what she aims to do with her music.
“Everybody’s Gay” is the 8th track on Special and of course is nothing but special. Like many songs on the album, “Everybody’s Gay” is powered by disco and funk elements inspired by artists like Michael Jackson and Donna Summer. This song is definitely for the newly out queer people in the world. Lizzo is by our side as an ally in this song as she takes us on the night out so we can be our authentic selves. She sings about letting the stress go away, to dance the night away because everybody’s gay.
In 2022, over 300 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills were proposed in the United States. Many in the LGBTQIA+ community are currently fearing for the future ahead. It is vital to have songs like “Everybody’s Gay” because helps queer folks find safety and comfort in the musicians they love in regards to their queer identities.
In an interview for Audacy’s CHANNEL Q, she anticipated the track by saying the following:
“I would be so excited to do Pride this year for a few reasons. I can’t talk about it right now, but when the music comes out, I think people are going to be very happy.”
Lizzo has been a tremendous ally to the queer community since the beginning of her career and this track amplified that.
