X AMBASSADORS AT IRVING PLAZA

BY HOLLY VAN NESS

If there’s one thing that stood out at the X Ambassadors show at Irving Plaza last week, it’s their fans. Never before have I seen such a dedicated and focused group of fans at a music event. There were barely any phones in sight–just a room full of humans getting lost in the music.

Despite my train stopping in the middle of the tracks for almost an hour, I managed to catch the end of new west–a Canadian indie-rock band with rhythm and blues influence. It took a while for the crowd to get a feel for them but once they did, the rest was history. It was like an explosion of love as the crowd started to dance and jump around like waves in the ocean. They did an awesome job pumping up the crowd for the X Ambassadors.

Lead vocalist Sam Harris was a ball of energy from the moment he stepped on stage and I couldn’t stop watching keyboardist Casey Harris and how he performed like nobody was watching. The band played famous hits like “Renegades” and “Unsteady” as well as a handful of new songs off their latest record, Townie, that came out in April.

X Ambassadors have been on tour celebrating their new album since the day it was released and are nearing the end of the long run. If you’re anywhere near Austin, Texas, Phoenix, Arizona, or Los Angeles, California, I highly recommend stopping by and catching the concert. You won’t regret it!
