THE BEACHES AT STAGE AE
BY ALYSSA SCINTAThe Beaches, Canadian rock band, is a popular topic after the release of the long awaited TV adaption of the book, Off Campus, by Elle Kennedy. If you were at Coachella and saw them, you may have seen Easter Eggs of clips from the show, featuring their song referenced by the main character, Hannah.
They debuted their first album in 2017, with multiple notable moments in their career. Is Off Campus really the first time you’re hearing of the Beaches?
Blame My Ex , the band’s 2nd album, is a masterclass of a well curated album of feelings, sound, and cohesion. The title song, Blame Brett went viral on Tik Tok around the time it was released, which was when I had heard of the band. I had the pleasure of shooting this band during their 2024 tour, but their presence seems to get better and better. Shower Beer, the 7th song on this album, was also my anthem for a hot minute; except replace the word ‘Beer’ with Alani Cherry Slush.
Supporting Louis Tomlinson, The Beaches goes on one of their longest tours since existence. I caught them in the outdoor venue of Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the last leg of Tomlinson’s tour, but towards the beginning of the Beaches’ stretch of supporting him. Also on this leg of the tour was Picture Parlour.
To summarize a Beaches’ set, I’d describe it as fashion, messy, glamorous, and like you’re watching a bunch of best friends sing karaoke at your favorite bar. So if Off Campus is the first time you’re hearing of the Beaches, no shame, but you’ve really been missing out!
