ODESZA CELEBRATES THE NEW YEAR IN TORONTO

BY ARLIN

New Year’s celebrations have started early in Toronto with Odesza’s The Last Goodbye Tour. Named after the release of their first album in 5 years, rather than an actual goodbye, The Last Goodbye is meant to represent a celebratory return.

They had the crowd dancing and cheering throughout the evening, playing a multitude of their own songs while bringing the summertime nostalgia by mixing in some classics like “The Less I Know the Better” by Tame Impala and ”Day ‘N’ Nite” by Kid Cudi. Their lighting and stage visuals were extravagantly eye catching and quite funny at times. One of the most thrilling being those during their song Loyal which featured rows of their iconic drumline drummers which fly toward you in a guitar hero-esque fashion, with a large looming figure walking amongst them as lightning hits. I also really enjoyed the various ways in which their logo was animated to match each set of visuals.

Watching their energy mirror the crowd’s excitement throughout the set was a joy to watch, it’s clear they knew how to get the crowd going. Confetti rained down as they played their last song and even as we exited the venue into a cold, rainy night, the smiles on everyone’s faces remained.
