MAISIE PETERS TAKES ON 930 CLUB
BY LIZZy BAUMMER (SHE/HER)
The Good Witch Maisie Peters, bringing with her Grace Enger, is taking over North America, and she most certainly does not disappoint. It’s hard to argue with a sold-out show and a line wrapped around the building and down the road for three blocks. Fans showed up in droves to watch Maisie Peters’ headline tour at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on Monday. Peters previously opened for Ed Sheeran on tour before embarking on her North American headlining tour this fall.
It’s not often you see an opening act be met with the same fervor and excitement as the headliner but just that happened when Grace Enger took the stage before Peters. Every fan packed up against the barricade shouted lyrics of her opening song, Bad Guy, back to her as she played guitar. Enger’s performance only went up from there when her cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” had the whole room, staff included, dancing along. She closed out a stellar performance with a fan favorite, and my personal favorite, the high energy song: The Neighborhood.
After fifteen minutes of shuffling and rearranging on stage, Peters’ signature microphone stand, adorned with hundreds of friendship bracelets, sat idly at center stage. The lights dimmed, the crowd roared, and the Good Witch made her entrance with, you guessed it, The Good Witch. Peters' stage presence is undeniable. Her kind, bubbly demeanor paired with her intense energy makes her a must-see performer. She spent most of the first couple songs pacing back and forth, dancing with the audience, and playing guitar. The fans could not get enough! And just when you thought the audience could not get any louder, Peters broke out a medley of songs including a cover of Night Changes, the iconic song by One Direction. Over the course of the night, Peters played a well-balanced range of music from her new album, The Good Witch, while also mixing in some old nostalgic favorites including John Hughes Movie, Blonde, and Not Another Rockstar.
Overall, Grace Enger and Maisie Peters are a must-see duo. Enger’s stunning vocals and genuine connection with her fans make her the perfect opener for Peters. You will spend Enger’s set swaying and singing along before jumping and dancing along to Peters. Peters’ high energy, nothing left on the table performance will take you out of your seat and leave you wishing the encore was longer. One encore simply is not enough! If you get the opportunity to see the Good Witch as she heads to the UK and Europe (starting October 17th) do not miss out! You will certainly regret it if you do!
