KAtie TUPPER AT THE ECHO
BY NIKKI WONG
It was a full-blown Canadian takeover at The Echo in Los Angeles. The packed venue felt the unmistakable energy of Katie Tupper, a neo-soul artist with R&B influences. Hailing from Saskatoon, Canada, Tupper didn’t just perform—she showcased the very best of Canada’s vibrant and varied music scene. From dynamic openers to surprise special guests, the night was a showcase from our Northern neighbors.
The set opened up with Earth To Emily, a hyperpop artist originally from Toronto. She was a dynamic opener to warm up the crowd for an otherwise chill, relaxing night.
Tupper commanded the stage with confidence and a voice so smooth, I could only describe it as being bathed in butter. The way her live vocals mirrored her recorded tracks was almost unreal and effortless. My personal favorites like “Live Inside” and “Need Nothing” were met with a wave of energy from the crowd. Additionally one of the first looks at her newest single “Jeans (fall on my knees” was unreal, but it was the sneak peek at two brand-new unreleased tracks that really had the audience buzzing. One, a collaboration with Devan of Wild Rivers, and the other, a beautiful new song, “Something Over Nothing” featuring Jesse Gold—both were absolute showstoppers.
This tour is just the beginning, a glimpse of Tupper's artistry and talent in live showings. Clearly, this short stint of headlining shows is only the start of something big, and we can only hope it leads to a full-scale stateside tour. If you’re lucky enough to be in Europe or the UK this spring, make sure to catch her on the 13-date tour starting in April.
